Babies have a large and relatively heavy head compared to the rest of their body. In addition, their neck muscles are not yet fully developed. If the baby is travelling in a forward-facing position, his or her head will be thrown forward in the event of a head-on collision. This can cause serious neck injury and may even be fatal. By placing the baby in a rear-facing position, the forces exerted during the crash will be distributed across the baby’s entire back. It is then safer to travel rearward facing with babies as long as possible.

Maxi-Cosi recommends you to use the seat in the rearward facing position for as long as possible and up to 13 kg. This will significantly improve the protection of the head and neck of the toddler, which is still very fragile at this age.

Maxi-Cosi recommends you to use the Beryl car seat as long as possible in a rearward facing position (up to 13 kg / approx. 15 months) since this enhances the safety for your child in case of frontal collisions. The Beryl can be used though in a forward facing position when your child is at least 9 kg.

To switch from rearward to forward facing, you need to release the car seat from the base by pushing the grey car seat release button on top of the support leg. The Beryl car seat is in the reclined position (which is mandatory for installing the car seat in a rearward facing position), so you have to undo the recline position by pressing the grey recline handle at the front of the seat and pull up the mounting bars under the car seat. Then you can place it in a forward facing position on the base. We invite you to look at the Beryl instruction movie for more details on the Maxi-Cosi website.

According to the regulation, children must travel rearward facing up to 9 kg. Maxi-Cosi strongly recommends to keep your child rearward facing as long as possible and up to 13 kg to better protect the baby's fragile head and neck in case of accidents. To help you to know when you can switch from rearward facing to forward facing, you can use the informative print located closed to the headrest.

The cover, headrest cover and the shoulder pads can be removed for washing. Before cleaning, check the label sewn into the different part of the fabric. You will find the wash symbols indicating the method of washing each item. If the cover needs to be replaced at any time, only use official Maxi-Cosi cover because it constitutes an integral part of the restraint performance. To clean the shell, you can use a damp cloth. For more details, we invite you to watch the video "how to remove and install the cover” on our website.

This is a safety inlay, specifically developed to protect your baby from birth until 13 kg in the Beryl. For your child’s safety, it is mandatory to keep it until 13 kg. It is forbidden to remove parts of the inlay, to modify it or to use any other cushion not designed for this seat.

For your child’s safety, it is mandatory to keep it until 13 kg. The inlay consists of two parts: headrest and seat. The complete inlay must be used until around 6 months, after which the headrest part of the inlay can be removed. The seat inlay must be used until 13 kg. It is forbidden to remove parts of the inlay, to modify it or to use another cushion not designed for this seat.

No, the padding is designed to protect your baby in case of a car crash. For your child’s safety, it is forbidden to remove parts of the inlay, to modify it or to use any other cushion not designed for this seat. For maximum safety and improved comfort, please make sure you remove your baby’s coat.

The harness is adjustable together with the headrest. To adjust the harness, you need to first loosen the harness by pushing the harness soft adjuster button, and pull out the harness belts. Then, you will be able to adjust the headrest by pressing the button at the back of the headrest, you can adjust the headrest by moving it up or down. Once done, you can install the child and tighten the harness by using the harness adjuster strap at the front.

All group 1 car seats of Maxi-Cosi have 5 point safety harness with one-pull adjustment. This harness distributes the forces of an impact best over the strong bones of the child and into the seat. Additionally, the 5 point harness allows perfect adjustment of the child and keep him secured in the safest position in the seat.

The harness should be used until 25 kg (Gr0+/1/2) to ensure correct installation and optimal safety. Beryl offers the possibility to use the harness in Gr2 to provide for the most ideal and safest way of installation.

The harness straps should be placed at the level of the shoulders, not coming from above nor below. The headrest should be adjusted in consequence, keeping the harness at the level of the shoulders.

The anti-slip harness pads play an important safety role. It offers high restraint performance by reducing forward facing movement in case of a frontal impact. This material has been selected for these high performance restraint criteria and because it is soft, it is not painful for the child regardless of the temperature in the car. As it is part of the safety of the Beryl, you always need to use the harness of the car seat.

In this case, we recommend that you stop immediately in a safe place, fasten the buckle once more and tell the child he should not open it and the reason for this. It is always a possibility that an inventive, handy or strong child will open the buckle. If the force required to open the buckle were to be considerably increased to make it impossible for the child to open it himself, this would be contrary to the legal safety standards. The position of the buckle, the colour of the button, and the operating or opening force are all determined in European standards.

The headrest should be positioned in such a way that in a forward facing position the eyes and ears of the child are located in the middle of the headrest. This means that the child's head can exceed the headrest. In a rearward facing position the head should not exceed the headrest.

To adjust the headrest, you need first to loosen the harness by pushing the harness soft adjuster button, and pull out the harness belts. Once done, you can then press the button at the back of the headrest and move the headrest up and down to adjust the height.

This print is an informative label to help you to know when it could be time to switch from rearward facing to forward facing and what the possibilities for the installation of the base are according to the weight of the baby or child. On a daily basis, it's not easy to know the exact weight of your growing baby, and you may want to quickly install your child in a forward facing position because it's easier to see your child. Nevertheless, your child should not be placed in forward facing position before 9 kg. The goal of this label is clearly to avoid babies to be installed too early in a forward facing position and to make sure that the car seat base is installed according to the weight of the child.

The Maxi-Cosi Beryl has five comfortable positions in forward facing position - from a sitting to a sleeping position - and can be easily adjusted from the front of the seat.

The grey recline handle can be found at the front of the seat, and can be used in the forward facing position.

You can disconnect the ISOFIX anchors of the Beryl car seat, place the Beryl car seat on it and put it in the sleeping position. Then, reconnect the ISOFIX anchors to the car.

G-CELL is a side-impact technology and is integrated in the back and runs from one side to the other side of the Beryl.

Group 0+/1/2 car seats are designed to suit children from birth up to 25 kg.

Group 0+/1/2 car seats are designed to suit children from birth up to 25 kg (approx.7 years) and can be used for 12 years after purchase. To ensure the safety of your child(ren) during the lifespan of the car seat, make sure that the product is not damaged (harness or pads lost, etc.).
